I’m often asked what tools I use to improve my writing and there are certainly several out there to try, but the tool I use when I’m writing, the one I prefer, and the one I recommend is ProWritingAid.
ProWritingAid is a grammar checking and editing software tool which provides users not only with an advanced grammar checking style but also in-depth reports.
I use ProWritingAid not only for editing my novels, but for anything I write like, emails, sales copy, and blogs, like this one.
The tool uses artificial intelligence (AI) to find errors we often all make, such as:
- Overused words
- Passive verbs
- Excessive use of adverbs
- Excessive sentence length
- Vague words
- Repeated phrases
- Spelling and hyphenation consistency
- Alliterations
Do you ever get stuck finding the perfect word to use? Included in the program are tools like the contextual thesaurus and word explorer which help me to find the perfect words.
I have no doubt that once you use the program like me, your technique and confidence will grow and you will love their unique combination of suggestions, articles, videos, and quizzes that make skill-development fun and interactive. ProWritingAid also provides both standard and customisable reports, giving you valuable feedback on your writing.
How is ProWritingAid different?
Sometimes you want quick fixes for your writing, but sometimes you need more. ProWritingAid offers both: grammar checking to catch mistakes as you write, and in-depth reports to help you strengthen and polish your most important work.
ProWritingAid offers a free version which is great to try it out. However, the free version limits you to 500 words and is for online use only. The Pro Version offers unlimited text assessments with more reporting features.
I find that ProWritingAid’s prices are more budget-friendly than some other editing tools, but don’t mistake this for a lack of value—they just want the software to be accessible to as many different writers as possible.
It’s available in a desktop version that integrates with Scrivener, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word and has an extension for most web browsers.
