Surround Yourself with Like-Minded Individuals
And as a Gold Coast Author I do.
The Gold Coast Writers’ Association
January saw me planning events for the year with the other committee members of the Gold Coast Writers’ Association. This is my second year serving on the committee as the Website Manager. I feel completely alive when I’m with this group of passionate individuals who, like me are also writers. We discuss all things writing, chat about books and share our hopes and dreams for the future. We work together to figure out how we can best serve our members by engaging exciting speakers and sourcing valuable workshops.
Volunteering is not about what you can get, it’s about what you can give to your community. But the ripple effect in your own life can be amazing. I cherish the friendships I’ve made, and the growth I’ve gained from being together.
GenreCon 2023
February was a massive month of writing, attending book launches, and making new writer friends.
I attended my first GenreCon in February and the first day started with an epic plotting masterclass presented by international best-selling author Natasha Lester, which made me want to run back to my latest manuscript and keep editing. Followed by the Forbidden Doors launch night, where new writer friends and old discussed their latest projects and excitement about the upcoming workshops. Over the weekend I attended several interesting panel discussions and author talks, and I’m looking forward to next year’s event.
BOOK LAUNCHES
Also in February, I had a wonderful night out celebrating the book launch of The MESSIAH’S BRIDE by Gold Coast author Megan Norris and story giver Stefanie Hinrichs. I can’t wait to read Stefanie’s true-life account of surviving and escaping a cult.
There was a huge turnout for Jo Dixon, in celebration of her debut novel The House of Now and Then, hosted by Somerset Storyfest. I have since read Jo’s book and I highly recommend it. It was lovely to meet Jo and I’m also excited to have won the raffle to attend the next Bubbles, Books and Brunch event
International Women’s Day 2023
In March I felt privileged to have shared International Women’s Day 2023 with women who inspire me, fellow committee members of The Gold Coast Writers’ Association, Kellie, Kate, and Judy. We had a fabulous evening and were delighted by our reserved front row seats at the Gold Coast City Libraries’ showcase event, Women who Write, to celebrate International Women’s Day 2023. Inspiring authors Holly Wainwright, Dami Im and Dinuka McKenzie shared their latest books and insights on writing to a packed room of excited book lovers. As a Gold Coast author, what more could you ask for?
Holly Wainwright answered my question directly about what it takes and I think it’s what I needed to hear to move forward on my own journey towards becoming…
